Inquire about this item
Stunning set of 6 teak carver chairs designed by Kai Kristiansen for high end Danish manufacturer Korup Stolefabrik. A very rare full set of arm-rested dining chairs, all stamped with the maker's mark and retaining the original woven wool upholstery in excellent, well cared for condition.
These chairs are wonderfully exciting and collectible examples of Scandinavian Modern at its very finest. Organic curves form the backrests and legs which interlock in finely crafted joints to create an incredibly robust and comfortable dining experience. The back-rests are constructed from all teak plys, laminated and curved into a gradually tapering ladder-back template. Of special interest is the three way joint used to connect the seat, back and leg elements in an incredibly strong and elegant junction.
The chair frames are all in excellent vintage condition, exhibiting a beautiful patina of use and care. The joints are all as solid as new with no wobbles or movement. The woollen seat fabric is in excellent condition overall, exhibiting only very light signs of use.
Born in Denmark in 1929 Kai Kristiansen is a name synonymous with Danish Modern. He trained as a cabinet maker, graduating in 1948 and went on to train under Kaare Klint at the Danish Academy of Fine Arts. He opened his own office and designed for many companies such as Schou Andersen Møbelfabrik, Feldballes, Magnus Olesen, Fritz Hansen, Axel Kjærsgaard and Heltborg.
A matching extendable dining table is also available.
