Teak Writing Desk by Arne Vodder for H. Sigh & Søn, Denmark.

Danish architect and designer Arne Vodder should be counted among the most influential Scandinavian mid-century designers. A student of famous furniture designer Finn Juhl, Vodder debuted designing furniture for Fritz Hansen, France & Sons and Sibast, the latter for which he designed a wide of furniture which received worldwide recognition and success.

This desk for Danish makers H. Sigh & Søn is typical of Vodder's modest yet detailed expression through natural materials - in this case teak, in keeping with the fashion of the time. A spare, yet perfectly functional design still relevant in today's domestic or commercial workspace. Finished to present from both sides, this desk is designed for both a free standing office environment or private study alike. Of particular interest is the option to position the bank of drawers on either side of the desk by way of a discreet sliding rail system incorporated into the base of the desktop.

Overall this piece is in impeccable original condition, with only a vey few light marks to the desk top in keeping with age-appropriate wear. The underside of the desk bears the maker's brand and design number. A classic example of one of the key exponents of Danish Modern Design.
